Check out one of my favorite places - Cake Vintage.
I was honored to create this Muppets cake for the owners’ son’s birthday.
Here’s Walter!

I had the privilege of doing another wedding for our sweet friends kimberly & joe. Joe is from Texas and his wife-to-be wanted to surprise him with a strawberry-flavored grooms cake of hot dogs :) (photos courtesy of their photographer, not my iphone for once!)

Kimberly did a ton of the decorations on her own, including making a quilt with the classic double wedding ring pattern which we then duplicated on the cake.
We chose the white chocolate apricot flavor, which proved to be a huge hit. apricots were not quite in season, so i used jarred fruit. No one else seemed to notice, but i could tell that it was worth it to declare this a seasonal flavor with fresh apricots only!
We had such a blast at this reception!
For our friends Jamie & Andy’s wedding, I constructed this custom turntable cake to highlight Andy’s skills as a DJ here in Nashville. (hire both of these people— they’re fantastically creative!)

I created a yummy creation of the classic yellow cake & chocolate icing… topped off with chocolate fondant and turntable details. Below is the completely edible chocolate record:

Fondant elements (really didnt know what pieces i was making here, just going off of the real thing :) )

Coming together, the entire cake was covered in chocolate fondant and each detail was carefully placed. The motor well was also covered to minimize goopy frosting all over my electric components :)

motor in….

And taa-daaa!

Oh dear I’ve been meaning to update this for a month now! Well life happens and exciting things come along and blogs just fall to the end of the list!
I had the honor of creating my first real wedding cake & grooms cake for a friend of ours that deserves more than most people to have the man of their dreams! It was a beautiful location back in the old factory neighborhoods of 4th ave south in Nashville. They’re turning this area around and creating amazing venues and shops that have tons of character inside.
The bride wanted the classic white wedding cake taste with an ivory buttercream. I LOVE when clients choose buttercream. Its just so much tastier! We batted around design ideas for months, and finally she found the perfect one.

Her ideas and theme for the wedding were a combination of rustic elements (such as colored glass vases paired with wild flowers for the centerpieces) and vintage colors & textures (red & teal with several varieties of lace). You can see the cake topper is a unique one that ended up being perfect for the coloring on the cake.

The pearls were the main part of the design, made extremely easier with the buttercream base (sticky!). I combined ivory & oyster tinted pearls of different sizes to give depth and interest to an otherwise monochrome cake. The cake topper greys set off the oyster pearls nicely.

Set on a table of its own, set off by a classy chandelier canister, this was the centerpiece of the room. No pressure!! :) Thank goodness from farther away you can’t see the mistakes!

Here is me…. making some final adjustments following the VERY bumpy ride into this area. ACK! what a nervous ride. I learned a lot about traveling with a cake— next time I will do many things differently. I was lucky that this all turned out well as I was unprepared if something went completely wrong.

The groom’s cake was taken from his career as a music teacher. This is a replica of one of the guitars he actually owns. Really fun to make and put together. My husband came up with the idea of a wooden platform- nice touch!

A closeup of some of the details. Again working with fondant is something I continue to learn about. This particular recipe of cake lent itself to a much “lumpier” surface to work with…. another one of those things that you dont always know till you’re mid-experiment! :)
Baby showers and more weddings on the horizon! Stay tuned!
i found this recipe on sweetapolita’s blog and as much as i love s’mores, i had to make it just because :)
You get to toast real marshmallows and everything!!!

I wont bore you with the baking steps, cause you can look at her way more awesome pictures for that… but here’s the final product….SKY HIGH OF YUM!

(cue singing choir of angels)
Yall this is the BEST chocolate cake recipe i’ve ever had. SO MOIST. great texture. just…. wow.
i had some leftover so natch, we made cupcakes! (the filling is the marshmallow toasties)

Dang.
Some other projects happening recently…..
A cowgirl themed shower for baby Bennett. teamed up with my crafty sis-in-law for all the paper decorations :) Top tier strawberry; bottom tier oreo creme. YUM!
Some “surprise-inside” chocolate dipped cupcakes I made for our OWN baby reveal — the tower of frosting is BLUE :) and then dipped like a dairy queen cone.

Yowzers these were fun.

Summery themed diaper shower for my new niece:

strawberry cupcakes with sugared fresh strawberries on top. i attempted the cupcake wrapper craze that’s happening, but really it didnt do anything for me. I have WAY better ideas of making these look fun…. this is not it. Not impressed with myself here. :)

And because I cant do anything simple and leave well enough alone, also made key lime cupcakes with sugared lime slices.

These were great to look at, but as my first attempt at a key lime recipe, i was underwhelmed by the cake. good, but not amazing….

here’s a fun shot at the purple wrappers. liked these more than the yellow.
More cake pops! Baby shower pops with a jungle theme :)
2 flavor options: Chocolate oreo or strawberry. Yum!

The latest craze has certainly come this way. So many requests for cake pops!

I can’t take credit as this is not an original idea, but these are so easy to make, and so cute!

These pops were specifically for a 6-year-old’s gymnastics birthday party.

Pink, purple, and green were her favorite colors. Topped with drizzles and sprinkles to make them extra special!

Perfectly bite-sized for kids! Moms are all over these.
